A Week in the Life of a Destination Wedding Planner In Scotland

Ever wondered what a wedding planner actually does? Behind every celebration there’s a whirlwind of calls, meetings, creative ideas, and a whole lot of behind-the-scenes coordination.

Life as a destination wedding planner in Scotland is exciting, unpredictable, and full of unforgettable moments. To give you a real sense of what goes on, here’s a peek into one of my working weeks – from Hollywood couples arriving in Glasgow, to secret proposals, and finishing with a fairytale Scottish castle wedding.

Day 1 & 2

Client Calls Always Come First!

Mondays are the perfect opportunity to catch up on admin after a busy weekend. 

I had several calls lined up with my international clients, including a final prep call with A & A, a lovely couple from Hollywood who had just arrived in Glasgow ahead of their wedding on Saturday. These final check-ins are so important, ensuring every detail is taken care of so my couples can relax, explore, and enjoy their time in Scotland knowing their stress-free wedding is completely under control.

Tuesday continued in the same spirit, filled with exciting conversations with overseas couples, keeping them informed and involved at every step of their planning journey. Some highlights included:

  • A fantastic chat with C & C, coming all the way to Scotland from Nova Scotia for their Edinburgh wedding next year. It’s the perfect time in the process to talk all things wedding suppliers, wedding day timelines and organising those important logistical factors.
  • Another exciting call with S & A from California. With their big day just around the corner, we’re busy ticking off final checklist items, including finalising table plans, guest transport, and accommodation for their September Scottish castle wedding.

So many beautiful celebrations ahead — and Day 3 is a big one!

Day 3

First Looks, Florals & Future Plans

On Wednesday, I had my very own first look with my clients L & S from Colarado! We have been working together over Zoom for the past few months, and I finally got to meet them in person while they were visiting Scotland for some wedding planning.

We had a wonderfully exciting day with their gorgeous family meeting some vendors.

  • We kicked off with a visit to the lovely Laura at Ivory Tower Weddings & Events in her beautiful Hamilton studio to chat all things wedding décor.
  • Next, we headed to the breathtaking Crossbasket Castle where we met my wonderful florist Blooms by Elaine Minto to bring L’s elegant floral vision to life.
  • We wrapped up with a very productive planning session with Laura from the venue and confirmed many exciting details!

But the day wasn’t over yet!

I then had an exciting call with my new clients E & J, chatting through event timings, bagpiper tunes and the all-important cake cutting logistics!

Day 4

A Special Surprise in Pitlochry

After a quick meeting at Gleneagles Hotel (and lunch at the Dormy!), I headed to Pitlochry for a secret mission I’d been working on with my client Jake, who lives in Australia.

Jake got in touch for help planning a surprise proposal for his beautiful girlfriend, Monique. With the two of them based on the other side of the world, we worked across time zones and schedules to plan the perfect moment. It’s been weeks of coordination, calls, and quiet excitement behind the scenes.

Nerves were high and adrenaline was pumping, as myself along with Elahe from Elahe Photography hid among the trees, and darted up and down what felt like thousands of steps as we prepared for J & M to arrive at the location.

But, not even 9 hour time differences and cardio challenges could stop us! The whole experience went perfectly, and – more importantly – she said YES!

Helping create moments like this is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

Day 5

Supplier Catch-up Day

After an incredibly exciting few days, Friday was all about reconnecting with the many wonderful suppliers I’m currently working with – chatting through the finer details of our upcoming weddings and making sure everything is perfectly on track. It’s always such a joy to collaborate with people who care just as much about the client experience as I do!

And… while I can’t say too much just yet, part of my day was spent working on a very exciting Italy destination wedding project. Watch this space!

Day 6 & 7

A Unique Wedding Experience

A & A’s wedding at the stunning Blairquhan Castle was truly one for the books! 

Highlights included:

  • A truly unique owl ring bearer (yes, an actual owl!).
  • A breathtaking surprise when groom Andrew serenaded his bride with a moving opera performance. Not a dry eye in the house!
  • Beautiful Scottish traditions, including music from Steven at Piping Services.

And after an action-packed week, on Sunday came a day of rest, running some personal errands and spending quality time with my beautiful little French Bulldog, Storm 🤍
